Siemens Brothers
History
Siemens was founded by Werner von Siemens in 1847, based on his telegraph invention, which used an alternative to morse code. The company was heavily involved in the establishment of the long-distance telegraph networks that were a forerunner to the telephone. In 1867 Siemens completed the Indo-European telegraph line, linking London to the Indian colonial administration in Calcutta.
Siemens phones
By the 1920s and 30s Siemens was engaged in the manufacture of telephones for the BPO/GPO, as well as making radios, electron microscopes and early television sets. Very collectible Siemens telephones can still be found from this era pre-WWII, built to the specifications of the GPO.
