STC (Standard Telephones and Cables)

History

Standard Telephones and Cables (STC) was a British telecommunications equipment manufacturer, specialising in R&D. During its lifetime STC invented and developed a number of revolutionary technologies including fibre optics and PCM (Pulse Code Modulation).

The company first began life in 1883 as a London outfit of International Western Electric. Between 1925 and 1982 the company was owned by ITT (International Telephone and Telegraph) of the USA.

STC phones

STC briefly made telephones, including the Antwerp Telephone, but they were more involved with the manufacture of components than whole telephones.
