150 Series

The 150 series, or Tele 150, was a British candlestick telephone based on a popular American design. The GPO first introduced the Tele 150 to the UK in 1924, where it became their first standardised design for a table phone.

The case of a 150 was made of steel with a cast-iron base, while the rest of the phone was made of a combination of brass, bakelite and ebonite. There was little room inside the candlestick frame, and the ringer was housed outside the phone, in a specific ‘ringer box’. This could be based centrally in the house, and a number of telephones could be attached to it at convenient points for the users. These ringer boxes came in many forms.
