Model 50AL Candlestick

Candlestick Western Electric

The Model 50AL was the first free-standing dial telephone by Western Electric, introduced in 1919.

It possessed the rotary dial, which would become the primary method of making calls for the remainder of the twentieth century.

Advice for collectors

Similarly to the Model ‘T’ Ford, the Model 50 was available in any colour – as long as it’s black!  As with any electrical items from this era, collectors should not expect these items to work – but rather invest some time and love restoring them – or altering them for modern use.  There are still some very fine examples out there – for instance on eBay.
